OzScot and its Teaching Principle

Established in 1997, OzScot Bathurst, under the tuition of Cheryl and Amy Roach, has produced Champions Locally, Nationally and Internationally. Cheryl and Amy have formed OzScot Australia which draws together dancers from various studios all over Australia to perform Nationally, Internationally and at corporate events.

To date OzScot Australia has performed in the UK, Middle East and within Australasia.

The OzScot Teaching Principle

The OzScot Principle is one based on the strong following of the traditional technique set down by the SOBHD combined with new age cross training. The technique followed ensures the traditions of Highland Dancing are not lost and are recognised in world wide competition. The cross training allows the dancer to obtain a highly athletic yet graceful form of the dance. Cheryl and Amy Roach strive to bring out the personal best of each individual dancer. The importance of personal satisfaction and enjoyment of the art form is encouraged in each dancer. As members of SDAA (Scottish Dancing Association of Australia) all students in competition and championship classes do SDAA Examinations.

OzScot Classes are set up in the following categories:

Pre-School Dance for pre primary school aged children.

These classes are an hour in duration and include the basic motor skills of hopping, jumping and skipping. The children learn how to move with music and how to keep in time whilst having lots of fun!!

Introduction to Highland Dancing for school aged children.

This class is designed for those who wish to learn some basic Highland Dancing and Scottish Country dancing just for fun! A great hour of exercise is promised without the competitive drive required for our competition classes.

Competition Classes for school aged children.
